Deepak Ohri has Planned the World’s Most Expensive Restaurant for his Hotel in Delhi

Deepak Ohri, originally from India, not that well known there. But he is going to change all that by building the most luxurious hotel in the country in a middleclass locality of the city Delhi. He is not only bringing the lebua brand to India but has plans of creating the world’s most expensive restaurant in the hotel. The well-heeled diners will pay a cover charge of $400 per person which is more than what a diner pays for a meal at New York’s Masa. Masa is a Japanese sushi restaurant in New York City’s Time Warner Center. Launched by Chef Masa Takayama in 2004 and is considered one of the most expensive restaurants in the world.

Masa received the highest rating in Michelin Guide’s 2009 edition and was the first Japanese restaurant in the US to do so. The New York Times has awarded it four out of four stars and the Forbes Travel Guide has given it five out of five stars. Now Deepak Ohri who has built the Hotel brand Lebua from scratch in under ten years, wants to replicate it in Delhi. Deepak built his reputation by building a restaurant in a practically abandoned building and steered it to a position that it now has a waiting list of a week or more.

Deepak is investing 800 Crores of Indian Rupees in a 400 room hotel in Delhi, excluding the building which is already up next to a newly built mall. The ultra exclusive 30 seat restaurant he has planned will provide the most opulent dining experience and will open only in the evenings, and table bookings will close at 4 p.m. Michelin star-rated chefs will be handling the menu and the food. The serving of the meals will be choreographed. There will be no electric lights but a series of candles inspired by old classic movie Mughal-e-Azam. For Lebua Hotels and Resorts, Delhi will be its fourth property.
