Elizabeth Taylor was a star in the truest sense of the word. Anything related to her makes exciting news and now even after her death the excitement is building up for the auction of her famed jewelry collection to be held in December. The two day sale will be managed by Christie’s and is expected to raise a minimum of £20million. The collection of the Hollywood icon’s jewelry will be leaving for a three month global tour accompanied by couture, fine art and memorabilia belonging to the actress.
There will be a total of 269 diamonds, pearls, rubies, rings, necklaces and some fascinating jewelry available for sale. The more valuable pieces in the collection are mostly connected to the lengthy and complicated relationship she enjoyed with Richard Burton, whom she married and divorced twice. Marc Porter of Christie’s believes that it is the greatest private collection of jewelry ever assembled in one place. The collection has some incredible diamond pieces and some historic jewels and pieces that were made famous because of their association with Elizabeth Taylor.
The sales are scheduled for December 13 and 14. The highlight of the collection is the 33.19 carat diamond ring that Richard Burton had bought for her in an auction in 1968 for $300,000. They now call it the Elizabeth Taylor Diamond and its pre sales estimate is between £1.57million and £2.19million. The jewelry because of its association with the star has the potential to fetch much higher prices than estimates. Elizabeth Taylor was known to have an impressive knowledge about fine jewelry and that’s why she was able to collect the best pieces from the best periods.
