Blue Heron on Martha’s Vineyard Listed for Sale for $23.7 Million

President Obama’s August vacation on Martha’s Vineyard has earned the estate the name of Summer White House. The President had planned a 11 day vacation on the estate but had to cut it short due to the Hurricane Irene sweeping the Northeastern Coast. The estate was being rented for $50,000 a week and has been now listed for sale with a hefty price tag of $23.7 million. The 28.5 acre estate is located in Chilmark right on Tisbury Great Pond. The listing is being handled by Sotheby’s International Realty.

Known as Blue Heron, the estate is perfectly suited for a Presidential vacation. It offers plenty of room for Secret Service and Presidential aides. There are a plenty of onsite amenities to entertain the family. There are five structures on the estate with a 5,118 square feet main hose with four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a media room and a brick wine cellar in the basement. The second large structure is called the Bunk House and also features five bedrooms for guests. The other structures are a three car garage and a two bedroom structure with a fitness centre.

The estate has easy access to a nearby private beach on the Atlantic Ocean. The estate also boasts of a pool, a hot tub, tennis courts, a Par 3 golf course, a basketball half court, lawn bowling and a dock. Martha’s Vineyard has been a popular vacation destination for several other big names in American Politics. The descendents of the Kennedy family have been regulars on the island. Former President Bill Clinton and his wife have visited the estate off and on as their vacation home. It will be interesting to see who buys the estate finally and if the new owner doesn’t opt for renting the estate then where will President Obama vacation with his family next summer.
