Dubai is the gold-lover’s delight, more so when the Dubai Shopping Festival is on. But it is not just about gold bars or jewelry either. These days, Dubai‘s gold craftsmen have moved on to creating gold jackets as well. These jackets are unique pieces targeted at the super-wealthy. Crafted out of 22-carat gold, these ladies’ jackets weigh about 3 kilograms.
Marwan Yafe, the sales manager at Al Romaizan Jewellery, Gold Souq, spoke in detail about this gold ladies’ jacket. He said that the new product is built out of pure gold. He added that of the two units that were created, one has already been sold to a Saudi customer. The other weighs in at 3 kilograms and is worth Dh540,000.
However, Yafe added that the price of a full jacket could soar to a million dirhams as well. Speaking of the target audience, Yafe added that the gold jackets are aimed at affluent consumers from the Arab world and India. These are individuals who think nothing of spending a million dirhams on a gold jacket that would probably end up spending most of its life in a safe. It is an investment after all.
Buyers have to make an initial advance of Dh20,000 to order the precious jacket. The remainder can be paid after delivery. Yafe added that the jewellery brand is willing to craft million-dirham 6kg jackets as well, if customers wish. The gold jacket, which is designed in Bahrain before being imported to the UAE, is exclusively available from the Gold Souq outlet.
