Would You Pay $55,000 For A Handcrafted Savoir Bed?

We spend a third of our lives sleeping. So why not do it in style? Bespoke bed manufacturer Savoir Beds has been crafting top-of-the-line beds for clients like Emma Thompson, Liza Minelli, King Hassan of Morocco and Princess Yasmin Aga Khan. The latter has five pricey mattresses from Savoir Beds.

With price points that range from $8,000 to $55,000, Savoir Beds are not for the masses. Only the filthy rich can aspire to own one of these decadent beauties. If you think about it, for the price of the entry-level Savoir Bed of $8,000, you can buy a pretty neat set of wheels. Yet, there clearly is demand for these bespoke mattresses. And the company has retail outlets around the world at Berlin, Shanghai, New Delhi, Paris, New York, Moscow, London and more.

However, Savoir Beds did not always have this kind of a reach. The company, which started making bespoke mattresses in 1905, was acquired by London’s Savoy Hotel during the 1930s. As a result, the decadent Savoir Beds became the exclusive property of the London luxury hotel. All this changed in 1997, when the Savoy Group separated from the company. Since then, Savoir Beds has slowly been building its fan base and opening showrooms around the world.

“Spend a third of your lives in First Class” goes their tagline. Each luxury mattress is made meticulously by hand by a single artisan over several weeks. They are custom-made to suit the physical attributes of the client as well as of the space the beds will be occupying. Their 30-year lifespan is an additional plus.
