You got the last bit right. Fonderie 47 is a unique organization that creates items out of AK-47 metal. Proceeds from the sale of Fonderie 47 items go to organizations that buy and destroy guns in Africa. Often, guns are used as currency and in trade – a fact that enables organizations to buy and destroy the weapons. Or as Fonderie 47 is doing – make luxury accessories out of them.
The most expensive cufflinks from Fonderie 47 will be a limited edition release of only 20 pieces. Each pair of cufflinks will set buyers back by 30,000 Swiss Francs (about US$32,659). The luxury cufflinks are the creation of contemporary designer Roland Iten. The unique design is sure to attract superrich buyers. Another point in Iten’s favor is that these cufflinks are designed from a men’s bracelet. When headed to a formal event, wear them as cufflinks. Once you’re done, roll up those sleeves and combine the cufflinks to form a wearable bracelet instead.
The dual-purpose cufflinks would have won fans anyway. It helps that they are crafted for a good cause. The Fonderie 47 cufflinks by Iten are made in machines used to craft Swiss watches. The luxury accessories will be available three versions – 18-carat white gold, 18-carat rose gold, and metal from AK-47 rifles. The items will be sold through exclusive invite-only events.
