Sale of 710-year-old Magna Carta at Sotheby’s in NYC

Signifying the timeless chase of humans for freedom; this peerless 710-year-old copy of the Magna Carta dates back to 1215. It recognized the deserving rights of the Whites and restricted the King’s authority. Even the U.S. Constitution includes thoughts and expressions directly from this charter, which defiant mogul forced their tyrannical King John to sign in 1215.

Expected to fetch up to $30 million, Magna Carta would be sold by the Perot Foundation at Sotheby’s in New York in December. The copy available for sale dates back to 1297 and is one of the two seized outside of Britain of the total 20. This rare piece is available at the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington D.C.

Magna Carta

The founder of the Perot Foundation, billionaire former U.S. presidential candidate Ross Perot would be using the money raised through this sale for charity. Magna Carta came under the custody of the Foundation in 1984.

  • I have a copy of the magna carta of king john AD1215. My grandmother gave it to me 13 years ago and I think she had it when she left germany during the war. Can you please tell me when the Dean and Chapter of Lincoln gave permission for the reprint.
