Never before has the mystery behind Hermes been thus revealed. A new book plans to bring behind-the-scenes action from Hermes workshops to light. Created and compiled by fashion photographer Koto Bolofo, La Maison, is a book that seeks to capture all the action from the workshops of this Parisian fashion house.
Spread over eleven volumes, La Maison, is the painstaking contribution of Bolofo, who spent eight years working on the project. This is certainly a deviation for the noted fashion photographer who has been regularly published in Vogue, Esquire and i-D over the years. He has also spent over a decade working on Hermes’ in-house fashion magazine, Le Monde d’Hermes.
Bolofo offers an insider’s look into the world of this fashion empire. You will find plenty of shots in natural light as Bolofo works at capturing luxury in the making at Hermes. Apparently, Bolofo only used a film camera, tripod and cable release while taking pictures for La Maison, a book that is already attracting a lot of attention. Hermes has never been known to be forthcoming about how it creates luxury. So Bolofo’s book will garner a lot of buzz.
Bolofo’s book is almost a treasure chest of interesting snippets about Hermes. The cover, features a horse, harking back to the luxury house’s origins as a saddle-maker. Strictly speaking, this may not be a book for equestrian fans. It isn’t in the genre of Philip Jodido’s A Racing and Breeding Tradition: The Horses of Aga Khan. But the cover is sure to get horse-lovers excited. The Hermes Book is set for a 30 April release via Amazon and other booksellers.
