But a high-end camera like the D-Lux 5 requires a little heavy-duty pampering. So if you are getting it customized to your tastes, why not spend a little more and purchase a luxurious case for this baby? Acclaimed fashion designer Paul Smith has collaborated with Leica to create limited edition custom-made cases for this wonderful new camera.
Paul Smith has designed not one, but two cases for the D-Lux 5 camera. The luxury camera cases are limited edition pieces. Only 150 pieces will be available for each type of D-Lux 5 camera cases. The first type is a calf leather version with vintage-style multi-stripes down the side. This version is chocolate brown in color. The second type is made from embossed leather. The interiors are lined in purple while the outer surface is a pale, subtle grey with a crocodile skin finish.
Each case is handmade and bears the logo of Paul Smith for Leica. These London-made camera cases also come with matching shoulder straps for easier handling.
Sadly, the D-Lux 5 cases will not be available outside Britain. The cases will be available for sale starting from October this year. Leica’s store in London and Paul Smith outlets across the United Kingdom will be offering these exclusive cases. The price pinch will be heavy though. The cases sell for £200 ($325) apiece.
