The craftsmanship or the art of making fine watches is unaffected by digitization and Patek Philippe has been releasing more and more refined watches for over a century now. They have made some of the most expensive watches like the Nautilus or the perpetual calendar chronograph. They have a series of luxury watches to their credit including the Mecca edition. They have become the master of watch complications and can produce fine watches with multiple complications and features. They are now releasing the most complicated watch ever in their 174 year long history. It is their most precious watch ever because the complications are considered better than jewels.
The Watch Has a tourbillon, Minute Repeater and Perpetual Calendar
The new complicated watch made by Patek Philippe is called the Reference 6002 Sky Moon Tourbillon. It is the most complicated watch as it has a full dozen complication which makes it a ‘Grand Complication’. The complications include a tourbillon, minute repeater, sky chart and perpetual calendar. The sky chart feature is on the back of the watch. It shows the evening sky in whatever region you happen to be in. Similarly the moon phase display feature shows you whether the moon that night is a crescent or full. It is the most complicated watch and hence the most expensive without being blinged with diamonds and precious stones. The watch has been priced at $1.3 million.
You Have to Apply to Patek if You Want to Buy It
Patek Philippe took all of seven years to develop and make the watch with so many complications. Master craftsmen have spent over 100 hours on just the engraving on the watch. The chime on the minute repeater has been tuned to sound like the cathedral bells. The exclusive watch is not open for sale. Even if you can afford the exorbitant price you may not get it because it is what they call an ‘application piece’. If you want to own one of the Reference 6002 you will have to apply and your application will be approved only if you have an old association with Patek and you have a record of appreciating the artisanship of fine watches. Larry Pettinelli, president of Patek North America did not specify but confirmed that only few pieces of the Reference 6002 will be made.
