Luxury Brands See Children’s Wear as a Lucrative Sales Segment

There was time when luxury goods retailers thought only adults belonging to elite class formed their major chunk of their potential customers. But the luxe scenario has changed and children wear and infant wear seems be the newly found love.

Paris based Gucci has tossed out a sumptuous range for children which includes $340 fur-lined suede infant boots, a $375 baby cashmere outfit and a girl’s double- breasted gabardine trench coat retailing for $750. The British luxury fashion house, Burberry Group declared that children’s wear alone accounted for 5 percent of their sales of 1.28 billion-pound ($2 billion) sales last year. The company expects this figure to double up owing to its addition of eight standalone children’s stores.  Euromonitor International Limited, a London based market research firm also conceded that sales of children’s designer coats and jackets may grow 12 percent to $4.13 billion this year. This growth figure is three times more than that for men’s and women’s luxury outwear in 2010.

A lot of celebrity kids these days are too donning elite fashion created by Burberry and Gucci. Since Celebrity lifestyle is most sought after, elite consumer group is already following their footsteps.
