The most unlikely initiative by luxury SUV maker Land Rover is sure to attract the attention of consumers at large. Gerry McGovern, their design director is leading them to explore the market for high end performance cycles by creating the Range Rover Evoque Concept Road Bike. Gerry has designed it to be the ideal complement for the new Range Rover Evoque though it is meant to be a recreational vehicle made to the highest standards of Land Rover.
The monocoque frame of the bike has been molded from carbon fiber. The process adapted in creating the frame is no different from building a F1 race car. The frame has been handcrafted by Karbona. It makes the bike one of the lightest in its category. The aerospace handle bars and composite seat post hardly add much weight to the bike. The new bike has been fitted with the 20 gear Shimano Ultegra system for best control and performance.
The leather seat and silicone gel grips give the bike a touch of luxury and comfort. Right now only one piece of the Range Rover Evoque Concept Road Bike has been made and displayed at the Geneva Motor Show, earlier this month. The response at the show was encouraging as some expressed interest in buying the concept bike as a package with the new SUV. There is no confirmation from Land Rover as yet if they are going to take up the concept bike for commercial production.
