Korean Architect Shi-hyung Jeon Creates Horn an iPod Dock with HI-MACS

HI-MACS® received two awards at the trade fair Materialica – held in Germany last October – in the categories “Material” and “Surface & Technology”. They will exhibit at Batimat trade show in November in Paris, and, for the first time in France, will show the projects of the finalists of the 2011 Design Contest. They have a major presence at the MADERALIA 2011 trade fair, a leading building materials exhibition currently taking place in Valencia. Solid surface has established itself as a versatile material. It is basically a man-made material usually composed of marble dust, bauxite, acrylic or polyester resins and pigments.

The Korean architect Shi-hyung Jeon has used the material innovatively to create an art piece for iPod. Lenco iPod tower has competition now.It looks like a grand stand and delivers a full spectrum of sound. The podium is shaped like traditional Han-bok and Beo-seon clothes. The material used is the new generation Hi- Macs solid surface that allows for seamless and smooth finish and even improves the acoustic experience. The designer has named it the Horn and shaped it in such a way that it guarantees less distortion of sound.

According to LG Hausys, the makers of HI-MACS®, Jeon had tested various materials before settling for the solid surface. Its non porous features and the minimal vibration the material generates despite the contact with the speakers made it the most suitable material for the iPod dock. The result is the purest sound of music. The amplifier in the dock delivers an output of 25W and the frequency ranges from 47Hz to 20Khz. The price has not been declared as yet but do you think it will be expensive?
