Anything that ever belonged to a popular public figure when auctioned does go for a big price though we highly doubt if ex-U.S Prez would ever fall in that category. Now that is a whole debate altogether. Anyways, we are talking about legendary pop artist Keith Haring who once did magic on a regular wooden skateboard deck with a black marker way back in 1987. And it is this very skateboard that managed to rake in a lot of moolah for the folks who auctioned it recently. This is just what 22 years of reckless fame does!
Auctioned in New York along with other carefully curated pieces from the lives of contemporary artists like ESPO, KAWS, Ed Templeton and Shepard Fairey, Haring’s skateboard went away for a whopping $16,250. This figure was superseded only by two other pieces — one by Tom Sachs and the other by Verner Panton.
Another item that earned a lot of attention is a handwritten scrawl from an ’89 edition series by Richard Prince. It rather interestingly reads, “If I refuse to go to bed with you,†she whispered, “will you really commit suicide?â€
