Club Lusitano in Hong Kong played host to a special photographic exhibition targeted at the whisky connoisseurs. The exhibition of photographs by Albert Watson was called The Macallan Masters of Photography: Albert Watson Edition exhibition. The exhibition at Club Lusitano opened on June 23. The Masters of Photography series was launched with a collection by Rankin and now The Macallan commissioned Scottish photographer Albert Watson to trace the journey of its exceptional oak casks by embarking on a 12-day journey. The photographs taken during the exciting journey tell a story and have been displayed in the exhibition.
Albert Watson captures the history of The Macallan Distillery through his photographs starting from the entrancing forests of Northern Spain to the traditional cooperage in Jerez. Watson has focused on the sherry seasoned oak casks as it is these casks that are responsible for providing The Macallan’s distinctive flavor. Watson’s photography brings alive the story of the distillery in all its glory and poignancy. The people present had the privilege of watching a sand animation performance as well.
The photographs will be made available to the public at large in a limited edition release. 1,000 box sets have been planned which will have a bottle of The Macallan Sherry Oak 20-year-old whisky accompanied by a specially commissioned set of 10 portfolio prints. The box sets will be made available for purchase worldwide. This is another feather in Albert Watson’s cap. He has already shot over 240 covers for magazines like Vogue and Rolling Stone. Known for his provocative images, he has been hailed as one of the 20 most influential photographers of all time. The Royal Photographic Society awarded him the prestigious Centenary Medal in 2010.
