Some guys have all the luck. Take British artist Damien Hirst for instance. The artist’s work was auctioned for the first time in Hong Kong and it has now become the most expensive work by Hirst to ever sold at an auction in the Asian region. In fact, it was also the first occurrence for a work from his ‘Butterfly Series’ to auctioned in Asia.
Auctioned at Seoul’s Modern and Contemporary Art sale, the work in reference called Tranquility went for a cool $1.71 million. The winning bidder was an Asian collector, identity unknown, who finalized the deal on phone.
A little birdie told us that butterflies are a symbol of eternity and resurrection in many cultures. And this is what David Hirst has tried to bring into his creations. In fact, he has gone on to add dead butterflies on the vast canvas of Tranquility, making it look like a kaleidoscope.
