Washington DC’s Most Expensive Home Finally Has A Buyer

If you are looking for the most expensive homes in US, you cannot miss Halcyon House in Washington DC. Unfortunately, if you were hoping to buy it, you are too late. Washington DC’s most expensive home has just been contracted by an as-yet unidentified buyer. The deal took place barely a fortnight after the luxury property was marked down from the previous list price of $15 million to $12.5 million.

The price is nothing compared to that of the world’s most expensive house – Mukesh Ambani’s $2 billion Antilla in the heart of Mumbai. The Georgetown home is also not a patch on the most expensive home in UK, a property that was valued at $113 million in July this year. But that should not take away from Halcyon House’s status as Washington DC’s costliest property, despite the sharp drop in its list price.

A few years ago, the luxury home on 3400-3410 Prospect Street NW had been listed at $30 million. But the absence of buyers convinced the owners to drop the price considerably. Eventually, it was contracted for $12.5 million, an amount that is less than half Halcyon House’s original list price. The listing agent was Mark McFadden of Washington Fine Properties.

Halcyon House is an old construction dating back to the 1700s. Built by Benjamin Stoddert, with gardens designed by Pierre L’Enfant, Halcyon House is a beautiful residence that smacks of the past. The property has often served as a wedding venue from time to time. It has another claim to fame – a nephew of writer Mark Twain once owned the property.
