If you thought six-inch heels were an impossibility, try this one on for size. Christian Louboutin has designed a pair of eight-inch ballet heels. I suppose only ballet dancers could walk around in these Swarovski crystal-studded heels. As it turns out, these expensive shoes will not be available in regular footwear showrooms. The ballet-inspired eight-inch heels have been designed for an auction to support the English National Ballet.
The auction is being organized by an auction house from London, The Summer Party. The auction will feature a range of items, all related to English ballet.
The eight-inch heels are made of beige silk encrusted with Swarovski crystals. The sole of this beautiful and obviously expensive shoe is bright red. Bidding for the auction began on the Thursday of last week and was to continue until 10.30pm on 30 June. Initial estimates pegged the ballet shoes from Christian Louboutin at around $75,000.
The auction will also be featuring a number of ballet tutus and tiaras. Several high profile designers are associated with this fund raising event for the English National Ballet. Apart from Louboutin, the featured designers include Wright & Teague, Natasha Zinko and Giles Deacon among others.
Watch out for the elaborate tutu in black and white that has been designed by Erdem. The designer has brought out ballet-inspired collections in the recent past. Meanwhile, Giles Deacon has created an exquisite tutu inspired by the Black Swan in the famous Swan Lake ballet.
The money raised by the auction will help the English National Ballet maintain their current tour schedule without having to make major cutbacks.
