Danish electronics company Bang & Olufsen has introduced its first 3D television set. With an 85-inch plasma screen and a host of great features, the new BeoVision 4-85 is a great-looking set designed to add to your TV viewing experience. The BeoVision 4-85 is, incidentally, the only plasma screen in the Bang & Olufsen portfolio. The rest are all top-of-the-line LED-backlit LCD sets.
Like all other Bang & Olufsen TVs, the BeoVision 4-85 is also programmable. At the time of purchase, an engineer will integrate all your existing gadgets and players with the TV remote control. If you later end up buying a new player or HD system, a Bang & Olufsen engineer will have to come and reconfigure the remote.
You would expect these services to be part of the package. After all, you are paying £66,000 for the BeoVision 4-85. But there are other charges as well. For instance, you cannot bring the BeoVision 4-85 into just any home. Before you buy the TV, the company will conduct a site survey to see whether the walls of your home can support this whopper of a TV and whether the doors are wide enough to let it pass. This preliminary site visit £300, money that will come out of your pocket if you do not end up buying the TV. If you do, the money is refundable.
The BeoVision 4-85’s 500-kg floor stand pushes up the cost further. It is not great for changing viewing angles, for it only elevates the TV. But you can program it to change the TV position for when it is in use and when it is not. This is 3D TV viewing at its indulgent best.
