The Fairmont lets you dive into the deep blue sea

The name Fairmont conjures up a world of opulence and comfort. But what is known by very few people is that the luxury hotel group offers ecological experience packages for are not satiated by a mere beach experience. The Global Explorer Series is a collaboration between Fairmont and the National Geographic Society, which in its second year has expanded the range of packages it offers.

The latest additions include snorkeling, scuba diving, boat trips and underwater photography, as well as tours of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and presentation from celebrity explorers. The rates for these underwater excursions begin at $399 (€299) per night.

These spectacular trips include a guided tour to the largest coastal Mayan archaeological site, and to top that off, guests can also meet American oceanographer and top US scientist Sylvia Earle on this trip to the Riviera Maya in Mexico. Since the oceans cover more than 70 percent of the Earth’s surface, Fairmont believes that if you’re not getting underwater, you’re missing out on a whole lot of action.

This package is in line with a number of “Experience” packages that are being offered by major hotel chains as they seek to expand beyond traditional business locations. Hilton, for example, offers diving, golf or skiing packages with professionals while French chain Accor offers local food “picnic” packages prepared by its chefs.
