Singapore is truly the land of revelry. Comprising mainly of expatriats from asian countires, this island is well known as a hard working lot that likes to unwind at the slightest chance it gets. And now there is yet another hot spot for Sigaporeans to go wild at. The world saw as Singapore opened its arms to its second casino on Tuesday. This extravagant hang out has been built as a part of a $US 5,5 billion complex that has been built at the behest of the US gaming giant LasVegas Sands.
Christened The Marina Bay Sands, this one is also being celebrated as the second most expensive casino in the world aftr MGM Mirage’s CityCenter in LasVegas. And not just that, it is well epected to make as much as US 1 billion in annual profit. Apart from the casino, the new building houses 2,560 hotel rooms, a portion of a shopping mall, some restaurants, an exhibition centre and an events plaza.
A little internet research told us that Singapore legalised casino gambling only very recently in 2005. As a result, a flurry of construction began despite the city-state’s financial hard times owing to the global recession in 2008.
