Rue La La Extends Site by Launching Rue Local in Boston

Rue La La, the private online sales company operates out of Boston. The two year old site sells online about 500 luxury brands including big names like Dior and Corum watches. They have announced that they are expanding the business for the benefit of the residents of Boston. They will launch Rue Boston, an extension of its site that will sell goods at a discount to local Rue La La members.

The site will acquires slow-selling or overstocked items from high-end retailers, and then offer those goods at a discount to its 2.6 million members. Daily e-mail reminders will alert members at 11 a.m. about the latest sales, also known in the industry as “flash sales.’’ But people must be invited by a member to shop from the site. The site maintains its exclusivity and cannot be found by traditional search engines.

The site photographs every item they sold instead of using the images provided by the manufacturers. Rue La La has been growing steadily. Last year, the company had 185 employees. This year, it has more than 350. This Rue local experiment is just the beginning. The details are not available but this local service will be extended to other cities by 2011.
