Richard Branson’s famous Necker Island retreat had unfortunately burned down two years ago due to lightening. But the gorgeous mansion is now ready for use again after undergoing extensive renovation. Branson used to rent out the main house when he wasn’t using it himself and the per night charge for it is a cool $60,000. Calling it a little steep would be an understatement. Many celebrities like Johnny Depp, Celine Dion, David Copperfield and Mel Gibson own private islands, but Branson’s Necker Island is definitely amongst the most beautiful.
The Great House has a 1,500 square feet master suite with its very own Jacuzzi and outdoor bath and eight additional guest bedrooms. An interesting feature is the zip line which carries guests from the house to the beach. The island spans over 74 acres in the British Virgin Islands. He visited the island and decided to buy it way back in 1978 for a sum of $180,000. The island is very dear to the business mogul who calls it his “best financial moveâ€. Since then, he has spent considerable time, energy and not to mention money, to turn this island into a veritable paradise.
The Caribbean is filled with picturesque islands but the exclusivity and privacy of this island sets it apart from the rest. When the house was burned down in 2011, he vowed to build it again and he has stayed true to his word. The new house like the old one is inspired by Balinese architecture. Apart from the main house, there are six other smaller houses. A total of 30 adults and six children can be accommodated on the island. Meals are served outside so that guests can enjoy the breathtaking view of the Caribbean. There is a gym, a spa, a tennis court where guests can enjoy themselves. One amazing feature is the “Necker Nymphâ€, which is a mini submarine that will show you the magical sights under the sea. This retreat really is something!
