Sometimes, luxury can indeed get obscene. While it is great that celebrities are offered huge amounts of money to participate in designing, organizing and even participating in events, interior decor and fashion, it gets obscene when the person who commissions it comes from some place where people do not have freedom of speech.
Posh Spice Victoria Beckham has been offered $50 million to design a luxury hotel in Dubai, according to The Mirror. Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, leader of Dubai has requested Posh to create a fashion themed ambience for a new hotel, when Dubai is almost bankrupt, and when citizens of U.A.E face immigration from South Asian countries, and when recession has almost resulted in the desert state going bankrupt.
The hotel is located on Isla Moda, a man made archipelago of 300 islands which comes in the shape of the land masses of Planet Earth. Victoria herself was shocked at the astronomical amount and has not yet decided if she wants the job. She would work with Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld, if she takes it up. Meanwhile, it is not clear who wants to visit Dubai, apart from the blue-collared workers from countries like India.
