Platinum Watch Augments ‘Only Watch 07’ Auction, Raises $3.8 mn

Can a sale of watch generate a respectable amount for charity? The lately held “Only Watch 07” charity auction has not only erased this doubt but also proved it by raising $3.8 million from a sale of 35 inimitable timepieces during the 2007 Monaco Yacht Show. The sale generated is being donated to the medical research on Duchene Muscular Dystrophy.

This is the biggest sum ever generated through a charity event in Monaco and all thanks to Patek Philippe’s automatic “Nautilus Titanium,” that individually got a highest bid of ($738,675). With two-color dial, the watch offers a display of date and moon phase along with water-resistance capacity up to 200 feet. Second in the sequence since 2005, the auction was organized by Antiquorum based in Geneva.

Among other watches that contributed to the sales are:
DeWitt and Jean-Michel Wilmotte’s “Incognito 2008” for $562,800
Richard Mille and Philippe Starck’s “Piéce Unique,” for $450,240
Franck Muller’s “Totally Crazy Monaco” for $253,260
Vacheron Constantin’s “Malte Tourbillon Platinum” for $182,910

The third edition of this renowned way to earn for charity is scheduled for September 2009.
