This isn’t the first time we’re seeing a marriage between a designer label and tech giant. But Pierre Cardin is doing it all by itself. Needless to say, it too is quite motivated by the ongoing tablet-PC  and thought it is about time that it doles out UK’s first designer tablet PC. And thus there is the Pierre Cardin PC-7006 in an ultra-cool black gift box with a shining metallic company logo.
The designer stamp isn’t its only selling point. Under the hood, it has Android 2.2 Froyo OS though Gingerbread would have sealed the deal better. Other than there is the Samsung Cortex A8 1 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal memory, 802.11 b/g and 3G connectivity, HDMI port, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera and 720P HD video playback capabilities. It also has a capacitive multi-touch 7-inch display packs 800 x 480 pixel resolution. It measures about 19.5 x 12.3 x 1.4 cm (7.6 x 4.8 x 0.5 in) and weighs 520 g (1.14 lb).       Â
There are no color options other than black which comes as quite disappointing to me. Other than the brand stamp and the fancy gift box of course, there isn’t much of a ‘luxury’ or ‘designer’ feel to the tablet. Neither could I find anything in the tech specs that would separate this one from the present mid-range offerings in the marker. Anyway, if you still like, you could buy one for US$447. I think at least we should be happy that, in the name of luxury and design, this one wasn’t decked with crystals and jewels.
