Noma Restaurant tickets Sold Out in London even before Launch

To be the best in the World comes with a heavy price, literally. Especially for renowned head chef of Noma restaurant who announced that opening of his Copenhagne based restaurant, Noma, in London during the Olympics. 3000 tickets worth £200 were sold only in two hours after the announcement was made by the chef. A similar reaction was seen last fall when Thomas Keller of Napa Valley fame recreated his restaurant The French Laundary at Harrods for ten days.

The Danish chef, Rene Redzepi pop up restaurant Noma was invited by Calridge’s hotel in Central London as part of the  Olympics for a ten day event. The Noma’s is an award winning two Michelin star restaurant and is  an acronym of the two Danish words “nordisk” (Nordic) and “mad” (food). It has been named the world’s best restaurant for the third time by more than 800 experts on culinary. It is the British magazine Restaurant that runs the award and the selection is made by several gourmands, culinary experts, international chefs and food critics.

The restaurant specializes in reinventing  ancient Nordic cuisine. In the hope getting a taste of this sumptuous cuisine a staggering 10,000 people pre-registered for the event and booked a seat for themselves in the hope of getting the exquisite and exclusive taste of Noma, reported the restaurant’s trade publication Hardens. It certainly dashed the hopes of many a gourmands and left them thoroughly disappointed.  The pop up version of Noma will run from July 28th to August 6th.

For the event, the Danish chef Rene Redzepi, has planned a menu that is a fine mixture of British as well as Nordic cuisine. A five course menu the meal will cost £195. Despite the expensive price tag it will be a meal of a lifetime for all those aware of the chef’s popularity world over. The selling of the tickets was reminiscent of the Olympic lottery last year.

It will be for the first time that Rene Redzepi will be taking Noma out of Copenhagen. But looking at the kind of maniacal response that he has generated it will be just be the beginning of Noma’s world tours. David Sims of Southampton who was lucky enough to get a ticket has stated that this event is equivalent to a Rolling Stones concert. It is indeed for Rene Redzepi also happens to be the 100 most influential people of the world according to a poll by Time Magazine.

Mr. Thomas Koch, General Manager of the Claridge’s hotel stated that he had not expected such a magnanimous response. The ornate ballroom has been booked for seating 170 peope who will enjoy lunch and dinner here for a good ten days. Rene who has sparked a revolution by creating such fine Nordic cuisines will be given a lavish welcomes by Londoners.
