LV Collaborates with La Quinzaine Litteraire to Publish Annemarie Schwarzenbach

I suppose Louis Vuitton identifies closely with travel as it started off with designing and producing Louis Vuitton travel bags. That could be one of the reasons that drove it to concede to the request to join the travel retail at the Seoul’s international airport. They have been bringing out city guides regularly which are very well researched publications that really guide travelers on their first visit to a city. Their latest literary collaboration with La Quinzaine Litteraire also has a travel angle to it. It is a series of largely unpublished texts by Annemarie Schwarzenbach which is part of the ‘Voyager Avec’ series.

Prominent writers have been published under the series including D.H. Lawrence, Joseph Conrad and Virginia Woolf. Schwarzenbach was especially chosen for her rebellious nature and the mystifying aura she had about her. She is considered a part of the lost generation of the inter war period. She was born in a rich business family in 1908. She was married to a Swiss General and was considered an iconic figure because of her own standing. She had a somewhat conservative upbringing and was even urged by her parents to distance herself from anti-Fascist sentimentalities.

Schwarzenbach didn’t live long but died at the prime of her youth at the age of 34 in 1942. Her writings can be easily categorized into two as she undertook two different kinds of journey. Her journey through the Continent witnessed the helplessness of the civil society to stop the movement towards the World War II. Om the contrary her travels in the Orient allowed her to pursue an introspective journey whereby she was able to reconcile with the “joyful serenity of the earth”. The 324 page book will be released in select store on May 5.
