Lagomorph, the Wooden Bike from Deysach is Available against Special Order

Seth Deysach is an established furniture maker but he had started his career by working in bike shops because of his love for cycling. He ventured into furniture manufacture later more as a change than anything else. His love for cycling being intact, when he was asked to contribute to the Object Society design show, he decided to put both his skills and passion to good use and created a wooden bicycle. It is a single-speed, one size Lagomorph bike that boasts of the best components used for making a bike.

Deysach is now taking special orders for the wooden-framed bike, with custom options available on request. All experiments with wooden bike have attempted to replicate the look and construction of a steel or a carbon bike. It did not make sense to Deysach as a furniture maker. The frame has been created out of lengths of American Black Walnut and the structure and its joints have been put together just like a chair would be. The frame, forks and stem of the bike has been priced separately and if you add up everything for a complete bike the price goes up to a substantial $6,000.

The Lagomorph bike features non-wooden drive and steering systems. Crank set, freewheel, steel bottom bracket and pedals are from White Industries. The pin chain used is a Shimano Dura Ace that’s said to be both durable and rust-free. The handlebar is an Ahearne map which has a Paul brake lever attached to it leading to Dia-Compe front caliper brakes. If you are interested in placing an order with Deysach for the smart looking bike you must allow for a lead time of twelve weeks as that’s what he will require for construction.
