High End Resort In New Zealand Gets Acquired By U.S Billionaire

One of the most famous and high end resorts in New Zealand, the Wharekauhau Lodge has reportedly been acquired by an American billionaire for $24 million The new owner of the resort, William P Foley II along with his business partner brought the resort after getting it cleared by The Overseas Investment Office. Mr. Foley is well renowned as one of the most highly paid executives in the United Stated with an accumulated 10 year salary amounting to a whopping $430 million.

The Wharekauhau Lodge is located in southern Wairarapa and has been featured numerous times among the Top 20 resort hideaways in the world, while sitting on a 2023-hectare working farm, known for its exquisite clientele of the rich and the famous from across the globe. The Wharekauhau Lodge has been the host to some of the biggest names in various industries including Jack Black, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Meg Ryan, the Rolling Stones and Bill Gates. Mr. Foley is known for his investment in the hospitality industry with an $80m-plus resort ranch in Montana, fast food chains, and vineyards in Napa Valley.


According to Karine Thomas (Marketing Director, Wharekauhau Lodge),

“We are very, very excited. We have built a home here at Wharekauhau and the future is exciting. It has grown in popularity rapidly in recent years. With Sir Peter Jackson having his estate in Masterton and the movies connection, celebrities will fly into Wellington in their jets then jump straight on a helicopter and 15 minutes later they are here.”
