Four Storey Apartment in Kensington Palace to be Revamped for the New Royal Couple

The Royal Wedding of Prince William had the largest viewership ever. The wedding was grand in every way and was estimated to have cost $40 million. The latest development is that the newest royal couple will live in the former apartment of Princess Margret within the Kensington Palace. It is reported that the Queen herself insisted the two stay at the four- storey, 20-room apartment which has its own private walled garden. The apartment has been lying vacant since 2002 when the Queen’s sister died.

The apartment is not fit for a new royal couple, hence a lavish revamp and a royal renovation has been planned that will transform the large royal apartment into a fancy home fit for Will and Kate by the middle of 2013. Prince William has fond memories of the apartment from his childhood. The royal couple will also have Prince Harry as their neighbor and will help them settle down in the new apartment. Prince William is currently posted with RAF as a search and rescue helicopter pilot in Anglesey, Wales. He can shift to his new residence only after being relieved from his duties.

The royal couple is excited about living in the apartment which bears the number 1A. Kate is particularly happy about maintaining the garden. Apart from the spacious living quarters the apartment has a garden room, extensive staff quarters and a nursery. The renovations are estimated to cost around $1.5 million. The structural work will be financed by the public exchequer and the interiors will be funded by the Royal family themselves. Do you have design ideas that you would like to suggest to the royal couple?
