First Indian Fashion Film To Release On 18 May

Fashion and films are the ideal mix, which is why films like Coco Avant Chanel and The September Issue (a film about Vogue) have been so well received. And now, there is an Indian fashion film, After Hours, based on the regular work of Indian stylist and fashion designer Pernia Qureshi. This Karan Boolani-directed film has been styled by Qureshi with Angelina Joseph taking care of hair and make-up. Qureshi, who has styled mainstream films like Thank You and Aisha, is the focus of this short fashion film. Shot one Sunday from 12pm to 1am, the film is set in beautiful home in New Delhi where an intimate get-together is taking place. The characters in the film have been put together by Qureshi who selected a mix of people within her own network. This included models and personal friends.

The clothes that have been used are based on the personal styles of the people in the movie. So you will find a little Zara, some Miu Miu and Atsu. If you are fashion-forward enough, you might also spot some vintage Tarun Tahiliani or Marc Jacobs. Qureshi admits to even raiding the cupboards of some of the male members of the cast. She went with anything that captured the right mood.

Qureshi reveals that the idea of making a fashion film occurred to her because she wanted to put together her own aesthetic, without it needing to be modified or tweaked because of suggestions by a photographer or director. As Qureshi puts it, it was creating something that “is 100 percent me”. Watch out for the film on the stylist’s website on 18 May.
