Emir of Qatar Planning to Buy Christie’s?

These sheikhs from the Middle East seriously have too much money. Apparently, the emir of Qatar has expressed interest to buy the auction house, Christies. The name is Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and he has been investing a lot these days. He himself tells us of his investments in Harrods, and his hopes of getting a good chance to invest in several other places, Christies being one of them. Quite obviously, his recent purchases have made people curious about this man.

He is the ruler of Qatar, is 58 years old, has attended the Sandhurst Military Academy in England, and has been the emir ever since 1995. He made headlines in 2008 when he met the Israeli minister Tzipi Livni, as an indication of pursuing peace talks with Israel. But I am sure people are more interested to know about his personal life. Well, he quite unsurprisingly has a lovely wife, Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al-Missned, who is one of three wives of the Emir. She is also an international advocate for women’s rights and serves as a UNESCO special envoy for education.

The owners of Christies however said: “Following recent press articles, Artemis indicates that no sale process has been initiated regarding Christie’s, the world’s leading art business, which is one of its strategic assets. Artemis reaffirms its intention to pursue the long-term development of Christie’s and its support of the company’s plan to build upon its global position.”
