Look no further! All your doubts about which watch brand is better than the next are over. And the name to count on is Blancpain. Beating 33 other watch brands, this little known brand from Switzerland scored an impressive 8.74 out of 10 in a a survey from the New York-based Luxury Institute. The runners up were Vacheron Constantin (8.15) and Breguet (8.09).
Now you would ask who decided which watch was better the other. Well, they were those who can afford these not so cheap timepieces. The Luxury Institute quizzed 505 “ultra-wealthy” U.S. consumers with an average household income of US$845,000 and investable assets of US$16.6-million online. They were asked to rank their choice based on four categories: Consistently Superior Quality, Uniqueness and Exclusivity, Making the Customer Feel Special Across the Entire Experience, and Being Consumed by People Who Are Admired and Respected.
The special thing about this Swiss company is that the world’s oldest watchmaker, founded in 1735, and boasts of making one of the world’s most complicated watches:Â the Blancpain 1735. This handmade, ultra-slim watch contains 745 components and takes an entire year to make! Talk about patience! It has a moon phase calendar, a perpetual calendar, a tourbillon, split-seconds chronograph, and a minute repeater. What is even better is that it tells time as well! No word on the price but the last time somebody got it, they had to shell out US$1-million!
However, there is trouble in paradise. Milton Pedraza, chief executive with the Luxury Institute, said that “The industry is stuck in time in terms of its distribution and customer relationship building innovations. The future belongs to those watch brands that have direct and deep relationships with their end consumers.”
