The year gone by has seen a significant rise in the net worth of the super rich individuals. Business magazine Challenges has come up with a list of the richest men and women in France. Bernard Arnault, the founder, chairman and CEO of LVMH, the luxury goods conglomerate which includes Louis Vuitton, Dior, Dom Perignon, Hublot and more has been named France’s richest man in the new ranking. When compared to last year his net worth registered a remarkable growth of 55% which was creditable on a large base like his.
The magazine has estimated Arnault’s fortune at $28.6 billion. This estimate does not include his personal property holdings such as works of art, cars, boats and planes. Gerard Mulliez, the Auchan supermarket owner had topped the list last year but had to be satisfied with the second spot this year as the growth of his fortune was not as remarkable as Arnault.
Liliane Bettencourt, the L’Oreal heiress and one of the richest women in the world was listed third in the new ranking. The magazine estimated her net worth at $18 billion. As compared to last year her net worth has seen a significant and healthy rise of 40%. The competition for the top spot on the list is going to be more intense next year as the growth this year is again expected to be good. There might be a surprise in store for the readers of the magazine.
