Asus has finally let the cat out of the bag. It has unveiled its much-awaited Ultrabooks that is poised to capture as much as 50% of the notebook market. This super-thin laptop from Asus is an Intel pioneered device and even though it hasn’t touched retail shelves yet, Asus is pretty optimistic that sales are going to be roaring. This laptop is going to come with a price premium over what is presently being offered in the market, but experts say it would still be a success.
The UX21 Ultrabook is driven by a second-generation (i5 or i7) Intel Core processor and comes with a custom-made solid-state hard drive from SanDisk. Its slim dimensions goes with 11.6-inch screen, 17 mm thick at its widest point, 2.4 lbs. overall. Asus has also infused the device with “instant-on†capability for it can wakeup in just about 6 seconds and proves to be a key convenience for users.
Other specs would include up to 4 GB DDR3, 3 or 4 MB of Level 3 cache memory, support for Hyper-Threading and the Turbo Boost technologies, 64GB/128GB SATA SSD, two USB 3.0 port, mini-DisplayPort, a mini-HDMI, up to 7 hours of battery life. the price is expected to hover around between $1000 and $2000. They are expected to occupy shelves sometime in September but an exact date is yet to be known. Â With an aim to capture as much 50% of the market share, Asus is clearly poised to change the trends in the present notebook market. I wonder if Apple’s Macbook Air would feel threatened at the moment.
