Gucci Sticks with Japan for its 90th Anniversary Celebrations

Gucci’s association with Japan is very strong. The company had released specially created limited edition 100 pieces of Gucci Bracelet in support of the victims of earth quake and tsunami. According to reports in Women’s Wear Daily Gucci has chosen to celebrate its 90th anniversary with events and displays in Japan. With the rapid growth in China and the galloping demand for fashion and luxury there, most of the fashion brands are focusing on China to stage prestigious events. Just this month, we saw the biggest runway show ever in Beijing organized by British brand Burberry.

Gucci has instead chosen to ring in its 90th anniversary at Kyoto’s Golden Temple. The Italian brand from Florence will showcase a selection of rare and unique items from its archive in the Japanese city which they consider to be the sister city of Florence. It is also a gesture on the part of the fashion house to show the world that life in Japan is slowly returning to its normal rhythms after last month’s massive earthquake and tsunami. The show at the Golden Temple is scheduled to run from June 25 to July 13, 2011. It will subsequently move to Kyoto’s University of Arts and Design in October and end up at Gucci’s flagship store in Tokyo’s Ginza district in November.

Another anniversary release by Gucci has been a revamped collection of its 1921 classics including the Bamboo bag. They have also created the 3D glasses. They are now just ten years away from their centenary celebrations and it will be interesting to see what they come up with for the grand celebrations. The New York handbag label Coach has also announced plans for celebrating their 70 years. They have created a special campaign for the occasion starring Gwyneth Paltrow, which will be released in Europe and Asia later this year.
