Toyota i-ROAD Test Driven by Local Residents in Japan

Toyota has been striving to develop a fun-to-drive and convenient urban EV and the result is their i-ROAD which is an ultra compact three-wheeler EV based on a new concept. It combines the best elements of a motorbike and a car. It handles like a motorbike but provides the drive stability and comfort of a car. It almost mimics the movement of a skier or a running animal and gives the rider a feeling of being one with the machine. Mr. Yanaka, the Project General Manager tasked with developing the i-ROAD wanted to make short distance travel in cities smoother and more enjoyable and that is the basis on which the compact vehicle has been designed.

Mobility Solution for the Future

The design and the mechanism of the iROAD makes it very easy to handle and can speed along narrow streets with ease. It is an entirely new urban mobility style that has the potential to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce the pressure on parking spaces and places much less stress on the environment because of its low carbon emission. Toyota has developed it as a mobility solution for the future that will be used by both Japan and Europe. It will fit into next generation transportation networks efficiently. With the i-ROAD you will reach your destination the smart way.

i-ROAD, the New Urban Mobility Solution Concept by Toyota

It will Participate in Demonstration at Grenoble

On 2nd March this year an i-ROAD test drive event was held in Ecoful Town, Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. It gave an opportunity to the local residents to experience the totally new drive experience. Predictably the residents were amazed as the vehicle not only looked different but drove differently than any other vehicle on the road. The participants in the event needed only a brief orientation before they drove off on public roads. All the participants were unanimous that the driving experience was simply exhilarating. Toyota Motor Corporation, the City of Grenoble and Électricité de France (EDF) with some others will be holding an innovative next-generation urban traffic demonstration towards the end of the year in which 70 ultra compact EVs including i-ROADs are scheduled to participate.
