RM’s Auctions to Offer a Group of Aston Martin Sports Cars Headed by a $3.8 Million DB3S

RM Auctions have a record of bringing the best and the finest sports racing cars to their auctions and this August at Monterey will be no different. There are many significant cars scheduled to go under the hammer but the highlight will be one of the original, rare and spectacular Aston Martin sports racers. It is a historic 1955 Aston Martin DB3S Sports Racing Car, chassis DB3S/118 and it is expected to fetch$3.86 million at the highly anticipated Monterey sale scheduled to take place on August 17-18 in California. This would definitely be one of the most expensive offering at the auction.

The Car Retains Its Original 3 Liter Engine

It is by far one of the most elegantly designed British sports racing cars that effectively challenged the dominance of Ferrari. This particular piece was originally bought by Hans David, a Dutch gentleman racer who raced the car in England but later sold it to Paul Hyatt, a captain in the U.S. Merchant Navy. He took the car to the US where the car established a distinguished racing record while it passed through many hands. This is truly a rare car as only 21 “customer cars” were produced for private competition. This particular piece was slightly different as it was fitted with the Works competition twin-plug head by the factory in its first year and still retains it along with the original3-liter engine which develops around 210 bhp. This sports car is finished in the distinctive racing livery of national ‘Dutch Racing Orange’.

Inked Record Sale of $80 Million Last Year

The prestigious RM’s auction is being held for the last 25 years during the same weekend as the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This year the event returns to the Portola Hotel & Spa and Monterey Conference Center on August 17–18. Last year the event had achieved a sale of $80 million which was the highest auction tally ever achieved on the Monterey Peninsula. The 1955 DB3S 118 will have company of other notable entries from the same stable. An original1960 Aston Martin DB4GT, the 1962 Aston Martin DB4, a restored 1967 Aston Martin DB6 Volante, and the historically significant 1950 Aston Martin DB2 Coupe will also compete for the attention of Aston Martin enthusiasts. We would not be surprised if RM’s auctions create a new record this year.
