Christian Lacroix And Sicis Create Furniture That Smacks Of Royalty

French designer Christian Lacroix is known for his extravagant couture lines. The famous French couturier has always had a soft corner for jewel tones. If you are looking for subtlety, you will not find it in Christian Lacroix’s designs. The couture king does not do subtle. But if you want to live like royalty, his designs are just the thing for the fashion conscious.

We were really happy to learn that Lacroix has teamed up with Italian mosaic firm Sicis to create a new line of designer furniture. Sicis is known for its high-fashion mosaics, so this should be a match made in heaven. The new furniture line gets its inspiration from royalty, particularly from the mosaics that grace the Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna. Sicis is based in Ravenna, and the mosaics in question belonged to Empress Theodora, the wife of Emperor Justinian I from the sixth century.

Interestingly, the empress is regarded as one of the earliest feminists. And the Lacroix-Sicis furniture collection plays with several feminine shapes. When these are combined with Byzantine elements and heavy embellishments, the results are incredible. Moreover, Lacroix and Sicis has used materials like silk velvets and brocades, adding decorative touches using tassels and nail-head trims. Turkish elements show up in many of the designs.

Among the pieces that caught our eye are the Jeanne and Belisaire companion chair and lounge, the Julien Largentier sofa and Maximien chairs. Additionally, you will find table, floor and pendant lamps featuring long fringes. Expectedly, the price points are high. Prepare to shell out anywhere between $8,900 and $21,000 for this furniture range.
