Truffle enthusiasts from across the world managed to meet a gathering geared up to set highest bids for a 750-gram white truffle from Alba in Italy. There were populating bids from New York and Berlin but a truffle lover from Hong Kong put the full stop on the bidding session by essaying a $210,000 bid and tagging truffle to his name.
After the dry summer, the Italian truffle market has witnessed a great boom. The truffle got sold during the IXth world truffle auction in the northern Italian city of Grinzane Cavour at the end of the 77th Alba White Truffle National Festival. The scheduled truffle auction raised a total of $535,000. This sale has beaten the earlier record of $160,000 set by a Hong Kong based resident in November 2006.
