Georgia O’Keeffe’s Canna Red and Orange to Fetch Almost $1.8 Million

The oil painting of a flower, “Canna Red and Orange” on canvas by Georgia O’Keeffe (1887-1986) will be on sale at Christie’s in New York on Wednesday. The O’Keeffe Museum expects between $1.2 million and $1.8 million which would be used to buy the other collections of O’Keeffe artworks to make plump.

The decision was taken by Robert Kret, the director of the museum after a long thoughtful conversation. It was decided to sell the “Canna Red and Orange” to buy more art works of O’Keeffe to make the museum rich with art collections. The 20 x 16 inch painting was exhibited in New York and in Santa Fe in 1927 and 1997 respectively.

The painting has the right balance of form and colour. Canna Red and Orange is very smaller compared to her other large canvases of flowers. Nature, flower, and colourful blossoms will strengthen your spiritual quality which is the essence of life. In a male dominated art scene, her exhibition of flowers had evoked with eyebrow raising reviews such as erotic, and at the same time spiritually chaste.

In the mechanical modern day life, people would not have time and patience to appreciate, enjoy, and feel the beauty of a flower even for a single moment. Her aim was to give that moment to someone.
