Intercontinental Hotel Group Pioneers the MobileKey Technology

Intercontinental Hotels Group, the global chain of hotels, has been long known for delivering luxe services to its elite guests. It has now pioneered a new technology with respect to lock-and-key of the hotel rooms. It has introduced a mobile based front desk bypass solution that allows the guests to skip the reception desk and directly open their room via use of a cellphone key. This facility would be available at IHG’s Holiday Inn & Suites Chicago O’Hare Rosemont and the Holiday Inn Express Houston Downtown.

This new technology will simply cut down on the effort of doing a physical check-in at the front desk. To avail their mobile key sanction, the guests will have to send across an email to the hotel staff before the check in date. On the day of arrival, the guest will receive a text message with their assigned room number and a secured link to retrieve the room key.

OpenWays is the tech company behind this MobileKey technology. It has been configured around the principle of Crypto Acoustic Credential (CACâ„¢) and text messaging (SMS) to deliver the right link to the right guest through the most secured and efficient gateway. Presently, the solution is compatible with the latest smartphones, cellphones, all carriers and also major electronic-locking systems and access-control systems.

With this MobileKey technology, IHG will turn out to be a trend setter in the hospitality industry and it would just be a matter of time to see other industry players dishing out similar or even better technologies.
