Picasso Painting Grabs The Title Of ‘The World’s Most Expensive Painting’ With $106 Million

One of the most accomplished and revered artists of the early twentieth century, Pablo Picasso has made new yet again, with the sale of his 1932 master piece panting, titled, Nude, Green Leaves and Bust for a whopping $106 million, thereby making it the world’s most expensive painting. This gorgeous piece of art was sold to an unknown bidder, who placed his bid via telephone at an auction held at the Christie’s auction house in New York.

This incredible work of art from Pablo Picasso was previously acquired by Frances and Sidney Brody, who were well renowned as avid art collectors from Los Angeles in the 1950 s era. This new record set by the painting has now dethroned Giacometti’s Walking Man I as the world’s most expensive painting, when it was auctioned off for $104.3 million in the month of February this year. In the year 2004, another piece of art from Picasso, titled, Garcon a la Pipe had made headlines, when it fetched $104.1 million. The  Nude, Green Leaves and Bust that was expected to be sold for a figure between $70 million to $90 million, broke all estimate barriers and including the Christie’s commission, hinted at the recovering art market, that was hit hard during the global financial recession last year.

According to Conor Jordan (Head of Impressionist Department, Christie’s),

“The Brodys bought it in the 50s. It was only exhibited once in 1961. When we got into Brody’s house in November it was quite an experience.”
