People Can Now have Apple-based home automation system

Paradise Reserve, Scottsdale, Arizona’s newest posh community, will be the first subdivision in the state to be wired with an Apple-based home automation system in all the houses. The developers, Cullum Homes have collaborated with Cyber Sound to install the industry’s only “Apple to Apple” product.

The Savant home automation system works through in-wall and wireless iPad, iPod and iPhone devices that interface with a Mac operating system. This system, which won the Electric House magazine’s 2011 “Product of the Year” award smoothly controls security, lighting, climate control, motorized window shades, home theater, audio, Internet activity and several other functions.

This system reduces the total cost to about $3,800 as it uses both hardware and software from the same source. It also reduces programming time by almost 50 percent. Each house will have a one in-wall iPad in the kitchen, one in-wall iPod Touch in the master bedroom, controlled by a concealed seven-foot hardware rack containing a Mac OS X operating system and audio/stereo components. The system is also supposed to be user-friendly.
