A few weeks ago, there was speculation that bestselling author Tom Clancy was planning to set up a single lane gun range at his Ritz-Carlton condominium in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor area. Whether the condo owner was indeed Tom Clancy has not been confirmed yet. Until that mystery is solved, let us busy ourselves in admiring the new VO Falcon Edition from Swedish gun and rifle maker VO Vapen.
The VO Falcon Edition pays tribute to longstanding falconry traditions in the Arab world. You will find exquisite engravings of falcons of the Peregrine and Saker varieties on this gun. Damascus steel has been used in crafting the Falcon Edition’s octagon barrels. According to founder and master gunsmith Viggo Olsson, this is the only rifle with barrels of Damascus steel.
VO Vapen’s rifles use a patented takedown system. This allows owners to fit a number of different calibers on a given rifle. The takedown system has been incorporated in the Falcon Edition as well. It is the first VO takedown rifle with a full stock. Incidentally, the stock is of the finest walnut root.
The Swedish house of VO Vapen was begun by Olsson in 1977. The firm produces only a very limited number of rifles each year. It counts King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi’s Royal Family among its most famous clients. The VO Falcon Edition will also be highly exclusive with only five units going into production. The Falcon has a price tag of $820,000, which makes it the costliest rifle in the world.
