World’s Largest Advertising Banner Makes to Guinnes Book of World Records

Record with a difference! Yah, this is what a UK advertising firm Ad-Air has finally done by placing the world’s largest advertising banner at Dubai International Airport. Spread over 20,000 sq mts, the advertisement for Sorouh Real Estate measures 200 X 100 mts. It’s positioned flat on the ground adjacent to flight track expecting eyeballs from around 14 million people by 2008. If calculated correctly, the size of the banner is equivalent to the three football pitches.

The abode of this banner was earlier occupied with around 360 tonnes of concrete, which was removed to place it. It is on cards that the site will be lit at by 6 x 30m light poles carrying 48 x 2000 watt stadium lamps using 150,000 kw from on-site generators. The site was autonomously confirmed by a Guinnes Book of World Records examiner and has been bagged with ‘world record for banner size’ according to The Guardian newspaper.

The Ad is the beginning of a planned series of mega-ads at international airports by Ad-Air and by 2008 four new sites will be identified in Europe and US. The list of 30 airports that comes under company’s portfolio London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Los Angeles International, Chicago O’Hare and Tokyo Narita. The cost of ads ranges from £40k to £80k per month as per the site.
