Car Once Used by Winston Churchill Being Auctioned on eBay

Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister during World War II had a fair liking for cars and there was a Daimler DB18 that he particularly liked and used between the years 1944 and 1949. The Drophead Coupe is being auctioned on the German arm of eBay. Sabri Cakar, based in Germany is the seller of the rare car. The car has gained in value because of its long association with the British leader. It is also rare as it is perhaps the only unit surviving from the 23 cars made in this model. The auction is already on and the historic car has received biddings for as much as 470,000 Euros which is equivalent to $616,000.

The Coachwork Was Done by Carlton Carriage Corporation

The seller has confirmed the authenticity of the car as the original registration documents are available and will be handed over to the new owner of the car. British auction house Historics, based at Brooklands had also checked the authenticity of the car earlier and had even tried to sell it but couldn’t as the then owner had died suddenly. It is a silver and black coupe with the coachwork done by Carlton Carriage Corporation. There is green leather upholstery inside. The folding roof is finished in chocolate color. It is a powerful car which boasted of a 4-speed Wilson pre-selector gearing system which worked with a Fluid Flywheel. It had a different mechanism compared to conventional manual transmission.

It Is Unusual For eBay to Sell Such a Car to General Public

The online marketing segment is booming with customers willing to make high priced purchases on the net. The price bands prevailing on the online stores are consistently moving upwards. The items on sale on the net have also undergone a change with more products from the fashion and luxury industry with large price tags making their way into online stores. Edward Bridger-Stille, the auction director himself admitted that it was unusual that such a car was being sold to the general public on eBay. But this seems to be a successful experiment and one should not be surprised to see more such items for sale on eBay.
