Volkswagon Gears Up to Increase its Share in the US Market

VW is leaving no stones unturned to whizz past Toyota Motors as the leading automobile seller in the world. Its latest move in this plan is the introduction of Audi A8, VW’s latest salvo. Coming with a price tag of $90,000, this car will come to the US markets this November. This will be their star contender in the high end stream of the company, competing with names such as BMW, Mercedes and Toyota’s Lexus.

In the lower end segment, Volkswagon will be bringing out a midsize sedan from its newly acquired Chattanooga, Tennessee assembly plant, to compete with the big names in this category such as the Chevrolet Malibu and the Toyota Camry among others. Volkswagon has a paltry share in the huge US market. What the company wants to do to increase its piece of that pie is to use its brand name in the high end segment cars and use that to bring more reasonably priced cars to a wider population.

Rebecca Lindland, an analyst for IHS Global Insight in TK, Massachusetts, said: “We have VW growing significantly in the U.S., but to do so the brand is going to have to connect with younger buyers. Globally they’re very strong, the potential in China, where Audi already is the top luxury brand, is almost unlimited.”Only time will tell if Volkswagon is successful in its endeavors or not.
