Vintage French Wine to be Auctioned for $44,000

It’s always the old wine in a new bottle that walks away with all the hoopla. But what if you get to keep both the seasoned wine and the old bottle? If you’re a true connoisseur of wines and appreciate a good quality vintage wine then this is an opportunity you cannot afford to miss.

Read on to know why.

The ‘Vin Jaune’

The wine in question here is the ‘Vin Jaune’ which is expected to fetch anywhere between 40,000-50,000 Swiss Francs which will be around $43,728-$54,657 at an auction to be held at Christie’s next month. The auction will be conducted in Geneva, Switzerland on 15th May. Nicknamed “The wine of Kings and the King of wines” is a bottle of French wine dating back to 1774. The wine belongs to the Vercel family of France who have stored it for generations in an underground vaulted cellar. Christie’s believes that “this extraordinary bottle is probably the oldest unfortified example of what is to be still an astonishing wine and other true rarity for wine lovers and connoisseurs.” The wine hails from the Arbois in the Eastern Jura region of France. A group of wine experts who tasted a bottle from the same batch termed the wine to be “excellent”. It was the flavours of cinnamon, curry and vanilla that scintillated their taste buds.

The French and Winemaking

That the French make the best wine in the world is known to all of us. Their tradition of winemaking has a very intriguing and amusing history attached to it. The Kings loved it and the Queens selected the best wines for their emperor husbands. It is not just an alcoholic beverage that will enhance your fine dining experience but a way of life. France is a source of many grape wines such as the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah.

Don’t let the mind boggling price prevent you from owning this vintage wine bottle – a fine example of French history and culture.
